A benevolent interest-free loan fund run by the North Shore AhlulBayt Centre in Auckland, a non-profit Shia community organisation established in 2001. Members can borrow up to NZD 10,000, repayable within one calendar year, at zero cost: the borrower returns only the principal, and any gift to the fund is entirely voluntary. A guarantor is required, who must be financially capable, of good reputation, known to the fund committee but not a member of it, and who provides cheques matching the repayment schedule that are destroyed or returned as instalments are paid. Repayments start as soon as convenient, preferably within six months, by weekly or monthly instalments or lump sum as agreed with the fund committee.

No-interest, no-fee loans for New Zealanders on limited incomes from Good Shepherd NZ, in partnership with BNZ (loan capital) and the Ministry of Social Development (operational funding). Debt consolidation loans reach NZD 15,000 to combine and repay high-cost debts on affordable terms up to 60 months; essentials loans reach NZD 7,000 for car repairs, household items such as a computer or whiteware, dental treatment or study fees. Repayment tables are published and total exactly the principal: NZD 15,000 repays at NZD 96.15 weekly over 36 months or NZD 57.69 weekly over 60 months. Income caps apply (as a guide, under NZD 65,000 single to under NZD 130,000 for a family of five or more). Payments go directly to suppliers and creditors; no cash is advanced. Good Shepherd has lent since 2013 and phased out its last low-interest products in October 2022, making every Good Loan interest-free.

A zero-interest, zero-fee microloan of up to NZD 5,000 for New Zealanders on low incomes, from charitable trust Ngā Tāngata Microfinance (founded 2009 by Dr Claire Dale with Child Poverty Action Group, the NZ Council of Christian Social Services and the NZ Federation of Family Budgeting Services). Loan capital is provided fee-free by Kiwibank. GetControl loans pay off high-interest debt (typically 15%+ interest) and cover essential items, family wellbeing and asset purchases such as a fridge, washing machine, beds, spectacles, dental work or school costs. Terms run 6 months, 12 months or 2 years, and repayments (for example NZD 50 weekly on NZD 5,000 over 2 years) are deducted from wages or WINZ payments. Applications come only through financial mentors at budgeting services, and borrowers keep working with their mentor throughout. Not available for vehicle purchases or bank debts.
